Boolean Search

Books In Print on Disc customers who are comfortable with the "expert" search mode will find that this search space is familiar. Like the Advanced Search workspace, the Boolean Search space can be used to combine multiple search criteria and can be reached from any screen by clicking the SEARCH button on the top navigation bar. (Scroll down from the Advanced Search workspace or use the jump to Boolean Search link.)

A Boolean search is composed of four elements:

  1. A 2- or 3- letter index abbreviation (for example, "au" refers to the author index and "kw" refers keyword)
  2. A symbol (=, <, >)
  3. A search term
  4. A Boolean operator (and, or, or andnot) if your search includes more than one search critierion.

For example: au=charles dickens andnot su=christmas will return titles by the author Charles Dickens that are not listed under the subject index Christmas. pe=peter o'toole and pe=richard burton will return video or audio titles in which both Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton appeared.
